Confidential support

The first step is getting somewhere safer.

This page is for immediate support and qualified referrals—not for managing danger through couples exercises.

Immediate danger?

Call 911 now. If you are in physical danger or fear for your safety or someone else’s, do not wait. Get help from law enforcement or emergency services.

Suicide & mental-health crisis

If you’re thinking about harming yourself or in emotional crisis: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — free, 24/7, United States). You can also chat at 988lifeline.org.

Relationship safety & intimate-partner violence

If you’re experiencing abuse, control, threats, or fear in your relationship:

  • National Domestic Violence Hotline — 1-800-799-7233 (call) or text START to 88788. Free, confidential, 24/7.
  • National Sexual Assault Hotline (RAINN) — 1-800-656-4673.
Online safety note: computer and phone use can be monitored. If it may not be safe for the person hurting you to see that you visited this page, use the “Quick exit” button on this page to leave quickly, clear your browser history if you can do so safely, or browse from a device that isn’t monitored.

A pastoral word

Hear this plainly: God is not honored by anyone being unsafe, coerced, or afraid. The Christian vision of marriage is mutual dignity, faithful service, truth, and freedom — never domination. If your relationship is marked by fear, your safety is the first calling, and we will never ask you to choose your marriage over it.

For a worried friend or family member

If you’re watching someone you love struggle: don’t confront the partner alone, don’t assume, and don’t pressure. Listen without judgment, believe them, help them connect with the confidential resources above, and help them make a plan when they’re ready.

This page is a starting point, not emergency care. A retreat or marriage program is not the right step when safety is at stake. If you’re unsure whether what you’re experiencing is abuse, the hotlines above will talk it through with you confidentially. For additional local and specialized support, please use the confidential resources listed above.

When you’re ready — and only when it’s safe — we’d be honored to walk with you. Reach out confidentially.
