What this lesson is about
Recognize flooding, regulate the body, and use a time-out that includes a return plan rather than punishment or disappearance.
02
Practice it at home
Write a Time-Out Covenant: signal word, safe activity, return time, and repair phrase. A pause is never used to punish or disappear.
Prepare first. Choose a calm time, silence notifications, and agree that either spouse may pause. The goal is honest connection, not a perfect conversation.
03
Talk together
- How do I know that I am becoming flooded?
- What helps me regulate without rehearsing a case against my spouse?
- What return time can we realistically honor?
04
Carry one small habit
Pause early, regulate your body, and return when promised.
“Proverbs 14:29 · Psalm 4:4”
Scripture anchor for reflectionStop if this creates fear. No lesson should be used to force disclosure, sexual activity, forgiveness, reconciliation, or continued cohabitation. If either spouse feels afraid, trapped, monitored, coerced, or unable to answer freely, stop joint work and seek confidential specialized support through the safety pathway.
